bbfc- who's the target audience?
What is the BBFC?
The BBFC is the UK's regulator of film and video, providing age ratings such as U, PG and 12A. We are a designated body so have legal powers to rate, and sometimes cut or even reject works. We also age rate some online material. The BBFC is there to protect especially children from any content from ages under the rating, the BBFC examines and age rates the films and video before they're launched. This independent scrutiny prior to launch ensures the highest possible level of protection and empowerment. Most if not all have this age rating logo on DVD's, Blue-Rays and even in trailers.

Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child. To help them decide, we recommend that they check the BBFCinsight for that film in advance. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video work. These films contain a small amount of discrimination, drugs, imitable behaviour; and there is a moderate amount in the language. There may be moderate amount of nudity, sex and violence.

These films may contain strong language and may have nudity. There are some scenes of sexual activity, but not too explicit and strong. There is a strong amount of threat and horror, which also applies to the violence.

No one younger than 18 may see an 18 film in a cinema. No one younger than 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video work. Adults should be free to choose their own entertainment. With this film rating, the audience would expect explicit sex, discrimination, violence, imitable behaviour and drugs. Some of the content may be educational and for entertainment. These sort of films are not at all appropriate for viewers under the age; therefore these films are mostly targeted for adults.
|
The R18 category is a special and legally-restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. R18 video works may not be supplied by mail order. Therefore these films will have strong discrimination, language, imitable behaviour and violence.

our target audience?
The age rating for our trailer would be aged 15. This is because our group and a majority of viewers are the same age 16-18, if not a year older; so this would be a suitable rating. There is also minimal discrimination, imitable behaviour, language and very mild violence. 18 wouldn't be the most appropriate rating for our audience, as strong sex, imitable behaviour and so on; as we have to consider that most of the viewers are aged below, so this would make them more uncomfortable than scared.
