Moving image inspiration and sub-genre research
Sitting down in our group, the decision of the sub-genre being paranormal we found intriguing and favoured. its essential that our inspiration in terms of how it innovated us and pay honour as well as to what we should be cautious of if creating a successful trailer that engages the target audience to see the following film when its released, which is what a trailer is suppose to make the audience feel. As a group we wanted to go down the route of paranormal as not only is this genre gain more popularity than others, but this is where we got to put in our creativity and allow our imaginations run wild; an iconic urban legend Bloody Mary with a combination of paranormal activity films, encouraged us to twist these two in order to fascinate and introduce our audience to a new idea. This legend has been carried through generations, and paranormal movie has been placed as the most thriving film of all time. Therefore, the combo of the two encouraged us to make our trailer our own, however the Bloody Mary ritual is what inspired us the greatest. It wouldn't be a paranormal film if the house wasn't cursed our haunted, so we added the idea of having a normal house turn haunted after a sudden event. The sudden event being that one of the friends summoned the dead friend, who comes back but possess objects in the house to indicate she' there. This also entails the theory of Wes Craven, who believes more successful films especially in the sub-genre being paranormal; are based in a home. A house is a good tool to use, he also says that houses is where our safe place lies, however if a sudden event occurs and this home loving house turns into a terrorising place this can engage the audience. So below is following films that encouraged and inspired us to apply in our trailer.
wOMAN IN BLACK
This trailer is based significantly around children and the mysterious 'Woman in Black'. The Woman in Black is importance is not revealed in the trailer therefore an enigma is instantly created as audiences have questions about her. Similarly, from the trailer its unclear why the main protagonist, Arthur Kipps as no relation is seen between him and the Woman in Black. Photos of a family is constant during the trailer with their eyes scratched and again, this creates mystery as their history or importance to the film is uncertain and why their picture has been vandalised is not known. All of these factors help to encourage audiences to fee the film as they will have questions that require answers. With our trailer, we took the idea of the eyes being scratched, and changed it to a mirror; the reason for this is because our character makes contact with the other through a mirror. Furthermore, mirrors are known to create more suspense, and could twist peoples minds as mirrors are used in our everyday lives.
During the trailer we found this intriguing and engaging, the ways which the trailer presents something new and mysterious while enabling the audience to grow an emotional connection with the characters who are seen in the trailer. With the film being set in Victorian times, this enables the audience create a strong relation to the characters, as they have experience of these times. Therefore, engaging them to see what the story is behind the characters role. Although our group were not certain to choose this setting, we did feel that our audience should feel a connection within our trailer, so we took the idea of filming in an ordinary house to help build the connection between the audience and our characters.
Even though there is plenty of positive elements of the 2012(woman in black) trailer which we use some sections, however there is a small moment during the trailer as a group we didn't feel like including and to stay away from. One example is the narration, the reason for why is because if we applied this to our trailer it would make it more amateur and would take away the continuos feeling of suspense and mystery. Moreover, we also stayed clear of the music box soundtrack. As we agreed our trailer was not going to involve children, we thought the addition of a toy box playing would take away the plot; and make our audience more confused rather than mysterious as to what is happening in the trailer, Jozi contacting Zoe through a mirror, then the house becoming possessed.
However, not alot of special effects were used in this trailer; this makes the film look more believable and the audience would find it easy to relate to the characters and their situations. Although if special effects are used correctly and effectively, this would still entice the audience, which is what we've incorporated in our trailer. Moreover, the only effect we used is a mirror crack, to make the situation more mysterious and create a desensitization during the trailer. We favoured the modern Woman in Black, as the setting of the film still leans during Victorian times, with that the film still maintains mystery and suspense. The reason for why we didn't quite favour the original( made in 1989), is because the camera technique of some scenes being hand held; we found that to be amateur and would throw our audience, so we strictly stuck to still tripod camera technique.

Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer, is recently widowed and grieving the loss of his wife when he is sent to a remote village to put a deceased eccentric's affairs in order. Soon after his arrival, it becomes clear that the villagers are hiding a terrible secret. Kipps discovers that his late client's house is haunted by the spirit of a woman who is trying to find someone and something she lost, and that no one -- not even the children -- is safe from her terrible wrath.
paranormal activity 3- bloody mary
Paranormal Activity is also based around children. In the beginning of the trailer, the children are normal being raised by their parents. However this particular scene of the babysitter (Randy) playing a game of Bloody Mary with the Katy- we found would send chills down our audiences spine and keep them on their toes. We also wanted a scene where the character is looking at the mirror, my face would be darkened and distorted with a added effect of subway clips. Furthermore, when nothing happens and Katie tries again, Randy is then attacked and finds a large scratch on his torso. Once they try to leave the bathroom, a black figure moves past the door. This is a good indication that something is in the house, fooling the audience thinking it's Bloody Mary. We too found this intriguing, the way the suspense is dragged by a long pause, then after retrying the fear settles in once we hear Randy scream and shaking as the lights turn on.

in conclusion
In conclusion to the inspiration page, we as a group have viewed the technique and styles which we wanted to pay honour to; however with a bit of tweak. As a result from this planning, as a group feel that we chose the best elements of all the woman in black and paranormal activity trailer while making sure that the elements which we didn't include are abandoned to make a final product from our view that is formal as well as top quality; that too makes an desensitization impact to our audience, which they'd be enticed to. We also feel that our trailer will create good use of the sub-genre research carried out as well as the long standing history of the urban legend in the paranormal activity 3 and the Woman in Black. In order for this to become a successful trailer, we must look at what other trailers did well and what they didn't do so well in, to make sure that we have guidelines whilst making our trailer.
