casting decisions and why?
Rebecca Bashford (Victim)
The reason for we chose Rebecca Bashford (Jozi Perkins) is because she is a female victim (misogyny); which in most successful horror films women are chosen as victims is because their stereotypes as quiet and vulnerable. As to which our audience would connect with the character, and would appeal male attention more. Rebecca also is quite slim, so it adds to her vulnerability as slimmer women tend to be more fragile and sensitive making her a perfect victim for a horror. The character is also a teenager, which teenagers are stereotyped as unintelligent and rebellious which is shown in my film; when Jozi summons Zoe, then Jozi would have to suffer the consequences of Zoe's wrath. Even though women are more likely to experience violence and brutality from men, in my film I contradict this stereotype to engage the audience and settle their minds on a roller coaster. |
Melinda Rogers (Killer/Ghost)
Melinda contradicts the stereotype of men being the killer, the reason for we used her is because we wanted, again, to engage the audience's mindset and keep them at the edge of their seat throughout. This character is also quiet tall, which taller characters and tall characters are stereotyped as mysterious and their much intimidating than shorter characters. |
Sophie Bissex (Makeup Artist/Camera Woman)
One of Sophie's subjects is photography, which was very useful for filming because photography, so she already understands how to use the camera appropriately, exploring the function and performance of the camera. Her role was to also be the makeup artist behind the scene, as she also does Media and knows the typical cosmetics that are used in a horror film.
